Authors submitting new work may notice a recent update to Editorial Manager (EM), our online manuscript submission system. This update, which was implemented across all Cell Press titles in July 2018, includes an improved visual progress tracker and automatic metadata extraction, which will help reduce the time authors spend submitting a manuscript.
A new horizontal progress tracker visually indicates which section the author is actively working on, sections that have already been successfully completed, and sections which require further attention, making the submission process easier and more intuitive.
An exciting change is the new ability for EM to identify and extract key metadata such as manuscript title, abstract, author list, and affiliations from uploaded Word files. This information is used to automatically populate manuscript metadata fields at the final “Manuscript Data” step of the process. Authors will have an opportunity to edit this information and verify accuracy at the final step of the submission process before completing the submission and transmitting it to the journal office for editorial consideration.
